Investment Banking Superday Practice: Three Back-to-Back Mock Interviews
A superday is three or more interviews in a row, usually with an analyst or associate, a VP and a senior banker. Each round tests something different, and the hardest part is staying sharp from the first conversation to the last. The best practice is a full mock superday with distinct interviewers, not single questions.
What a superday actually looks like
A superday is the final round of investment banking recruiting. Instead of one conversation, you meet several bankers back to back, often 30 minutes each, sometimes with only a few minutes in between. Every interviewer then compares notes, so one weak round can sink an otherwise strong day.
The rounds are not copies of each other. Seniority changes what each banker cares about:
| Round | What they focus on | How it feels |
| Analyst or associate | Your story, why banking, a warm-up technical | Friendly, helps you settle in |
| Vice president | Core technicals: DCF, valuation, enterprise value, accounting | Precise, pushes on the mechanics |
| Managing director | Judgment, deals, markets and fit | Short questions, high bar, skeptical |
Why single-question practice is not enough
Most candidates prepare one question at a time. That builds knowledge, but a superday tests something else: switching gears under fatigue. You go from telling your story to a friendly analyst, to walking a VP through a DCF, to defending a stock pitch to an MD who interrupts you. The only way to get comfortable with that rhythm is to rehearse the whole day.
How the ApexIB superday mock works
- Three rounds in a row: an analyst, a vice president and a managing director, each with their own questions and follow-up style.
- A different cast each time: every round draws an interviewer from a bank of 24 personas, so names, voices and interviewing styles change from run to run. You never memorize one interviewer.
- Real follow-ups: the interviewer reacts to what you actually said, asks for the exact mechanics when you are vague, and moves on when you are solid.
- Choose the mix: technical only, behavioral only, or both, the way real superdays blend them.
- A report card per round: scores and specific feedback for each interviewer, plus an overall result, so you can see which round would have hurt you.
Free accounts include one full mock interview. Pro includes one every 24 hours, and the Recruiting Pass is unlimited, with voice mocks where you answer out loud like the real thing.
A two-week superday plan
Days 1 to 7
Run one superday mock every other day. After each, spend 30 minutes on the weakest round's topics in practice mode.
Days 8 to 12
Switch to daily mocks. Focus on keeping answers tight in the MD round: one sentence answer first, then detail only if asked.
Days 13 and 14
One last mock, then light review only. Go into the real day rested.
Frequently asked questions
How many interviews are in an investment banking superday?
Usually three to five back-to-back interviews, each around 30 minutes, with bankers of different seniority.
Are superday questions harder than first round questions?
The technicals go deeper and follow-ups are sharper, especially with VPs. Senior bankers also test judgment and fit more than first-round interviewers.
How should I practice for a superday?
Practice full back-to-back sessions with different interviewer styles, not just individual questions, so you get used to switching topics and staying sharp for the whole day.
Can I practice a superday out loud?
Yes. Voice mock interviews let you answer out loud to an interviewer who speaks, which is the closest thing to the real day.
